Open Source for Tunisia 2009 (suite)
Comme prévu la première rencontre Open Source for Tunisia (OST pour les intimes) a eu lieu le 16 décembre 2009 à Sousse. La journée a commencé par la conférence animée par M. Majed Khalfallah pour présenter les logiciels libres (historique, avantages, situation en Tunisie, etc…). Après une courte pause c’était au tours de professionnels de présenter leurs produits libres et/ou open source (voir le programme).
L’après midi c’était autour des tables rondes animées par les différents intervenants dans la journée. Notre LoCo, représentée par votre serviteur et Abdelmonam Kouka, a assurée l’animation de l’une de ces tables rondes. J’ai présenté au publique présent un bref aperçu de la distribution ubuntu et une présentation de la communauté ubuntu en Tunisie (historique, nos différentes activités, comment nous rejoindre, etc…). Ensuite Abdelmonam a présenté la distribution sabily dérivée de ubuntu.

La première journée OPEN SOURCE FOR TUNISIA
Le 16 décembre prochain se déroulera à Sousse la première rencontre “OPEN SOURCE FOR TUNISIA”. Cette première rencontre a pour but de promouvoir l’utilisation des logiciels libres en Tunisie auprès des enseignants et étudiants en TIC, des entreprises privées et des administrations publiques. De même cette journée marquera la naissance du groupe “OPEN SOURCE FOR TUNISIA” dont l’action sera essentiellement ciblé vers l’organisation d’ateliers pour la vulgarisation de l’utilisation des logiciels Open Source et la promotion des technologies venant du monde du libre.
À la question “Quels sont les objectifs de ce Groupe ?”, M. Ramzi Youssef, initiateur de ce groupe, répond :
Le groupe ‘Open Source for Tunisia’ a pour objectifs la promotion et la vulgarisation de la culture Open Source en Tunisie en créant un espace virtuel de rencontre et d’échange d’idées et d’expériences dans le domaine du libre.
Le séminaire du 16 Décembre prochain est une occasion de rencontre entre trois mondes différents :
1- Les étudiants, universitaires et associations d’une part.
2- Les sociétés et entreprises qui vont présenter leurs solutions basées sur les technologies du libre.
3- Les sociétés commerciales et industrielles, à qui on va essayer de présenter ce que le libre peut leur offrir en remplacement aux solutions propriétaires.
Au programme de cette rencontre il y aura quelques conférences et des tables rondes pour présenter et discuter du libre en Tunisie.

For the third consecutive time our LoCo was present, on October 31th 2009, in the biggest celebration of free software in Tunisia, the Software Freedom Day 2009. This year our LoCo was directly involved in organizing this event as our friends Wajih and Mohamed were active members in the organizing committee.

As usual our LoCo took the opportunity to speak about the ubuntu distribution, about our community and to distribute dozens of ubuntu 9.04 CDs and disk images of the latest ubuntu 9.10. Two members of our LoCo ensured the animation of two workshops. The first workshop, led by Rached, was a presentation of free CMS Drupal. The second workshop, led by Mohamed, took place around a presentation of WaveMaker tool.

When visiting the different workshops and booths of FOSS clubs, I was pleasantly surprised to see that the majority of members PC run with ubuntu. To these people I offered, on behalf of the LoCo, the stickers “Powred by ubuntu” to replace another obsolete sticker 
.
During this day two competitions was held for Tunisian FOSS clubs and communities. The first contest for “the best work of promoting FOSS in Tunisia” and the second for “the best idea for promoting FOSS in Tunisia”. At the last minute the organizing committee decided to cancel the first contest as our LoCo was the unique candidate. But we won, brilliantly, the first prize in the second competition with our idea that we have implemented since our approval in 2008 which is: visiting academic and educational institutions in different Tunisian cities to promote FOSS alternatives and provide assitance for migration projects like the one we made at the Engineers National School of Sfax.

Software Freedom Day Tunisia 2009
La quatrième édition Tunisienne du SFD (Software Freedom Day) aura lieu cette année le 31 Octobre à la cité des sciences de Tunis. Cette édition aura comme thème “L’entreprise et les Logiciels Libres”. Notre LoCo ubuntu-tn sera présente lors de cette manifestation pour assurer quelques présentations aux professionnels et comme d’habitude pour parler de ubuntu et de son actualité au grand public. The fourth edition of Tunisian SFD (Software Freedom Day) will be held this year on October 31th at the Science City of Tunis. This edition has the theme “Business and Free Software”.
